I've been getting really good at envisioning ways of achieving 3d artworks from 2d illustrations. One amazing technique is laser cutting composite plastics. This is a SITH HOLOCRON project I wanted to share:
After looking at illustrations I imagined that this object could be made from flat sheets, all laser cut and etched and then assembled to form the real-life pyramid.
This is the 4-sided holocron kit. Please note that the 4 inner panels are offered in CLEAR ACRYLIC, which gives you the ability to tint it red or any color you would like.
The RAW KIT includes:
- 4 etched inner panels (clear acrylic) (tint red or paint black from the interior for either a red tinted see-through version or a black version.
- 4 outer laser cut panels (clear acrylic)
- 4 acrylic rods
- resin endcap
- bottom plate
- paper template
The bottom is 5" square, and it's 5" tall when assembled, making for a really wonderfully scaled Holocon. Use as a desk decoration or display with your favourite props.
You can also convert this into a functional COMPUTER FLASHDRIVE by installing a usb flashdrive into one of the sides during installation. If you need sound emitting from the unit, simply drill some holes around the hieroglyph plates to allow sound.

Version 3 is taller and wider with a 5 1/2" base.
The HOLOCRON can also be made with clear transparent colors on the inner panel. This gives you an opportunity to add ligting features, such as this RED HOLOCRON complete with animated light features in the interior.
Each holocron kit comes with CLEAR inner and outer panels (an advanced feature not showing in the video tutorial). Instead of painting the inner panel BLACK, you use transparent red (or any custom color of your liking) paints, then assemble per the instructions. The bottom can be made to be removeable, as this example shows (magnetic closure).
