 **UPDATE FEB 14 2024    The PHYSICAL kit of the dial of destiny is now up for pre-order.  This is a casting directly from my 3D print and includes all the parts.  You won't have to do any 3D printing. I grew up on Indiana Jones films.  The new movie is such a brilliant cinematic achievement.  I couldn't resist making a replica of the new macguffin - Archimedes Dial.  This Antikythera is available both as a physical model and a 3d print STL file set you can print at home.


 This is a sample buildup Dial from my files.  This was printed on an FDM machine which goes to show you the astonishing results that can be achieved on a well-tuned machine.  Great job Gaetan Demers!

ARCHIMEDES ANTIKYTHERA STL FILE SET (no physical media)

The DIGITAL 3D PRINTABLE files are $30.00.  They are sent manually so please allow a few hours to receive your digital download.

 The ANTIKYTHERA breaks down into the following pieces (both for the physical kit and the 3D print files):

  1. The body
  2. the bottom-most glyph panel
  3. the core
  4. a set of 6 core brakes
  5. dial 1
  6. dail 2
  7. dial 3
  8. core cap
  9. compass (there are variations for this compass include a single piece compass or 4 part compass
  10. spiral ring
  11. middle glyph ring
  12. top glyph ring
  13. bottom glyph ring
  14. top indicator
  15. bottom indicator
  16. dial 2 glyph wheel

 

The PHYSICAL KIT MODEL is $325.  The parts consist of professional cast smoothcast 300 parts, laser cut parts, resin 3D printed parts.  Full instruction video coming soon.

AVAILABLE NOW! The Antikythera mechanism is modeled top and bottom.  The Dial breaks down into 25 parts that stack bottom to top.  I engineered the white/pearl parts as separate pieces for easier painting!  The dials all move independently on rails on the central core. The Dial of Destiny can be printed as a fresh-off-the-bench (Archimedes' bench) replica.  Read more below:

ARCHIMEDES ANTIKYTHERA STL FILE SET (no physical media)

AVAILABLE NOW!  The Archimedes dial is delivered as an STL FILE SET (no physical media)  The body is 'virgin'. That is, there are no nicks and dents or separations.  The file set includes a 'crackmap' that allows you to precisely identify the locations of the separation.  You can either build your Dial FRESH, or physically (with a dremel and/or files) introduce the splits and weathering. This makes for a dramatic decrease in the amount of parts you'll need to 3D print.  The largest component (the body measuring 250mm wide) can be printed on a CR10 in one piece.

  1.  The MAIN BODY (no weathering, no splits to give you options for final display)
  2.  The CRACK MAP (use as a template to precisely add divisions to the dial body)
  3.  UPPER ARM
  4.  Core BASE (scribed flat glyph plate that rests directly in the core pit)
  5.  Core body
  6.  Core RAILS (print X6) Allows for moving dials
  7.  Core CAP
  8.  Core UPPER ARM
  9.  Core LOWER ARM (3 parts - rivet - arm - celestial wheel)
  10.  Core SPIRAL
  11.  COMPASS (one piece option or optional 4 piece version for easier painting)
  12.  Circular INDICATOR RING for the TOP
  13.  Circular INDICATOR RING for the BOTTOM
  14.  PEARL ring for the UPPER TOP (flat, recommend FDM print)

The Dial (closed version) breaks down into 19 main parts with 6 separate rails for the dials to ride on.  I engineered the antikythera to separate into color components, leaving you to paint the pearlescent surfaces ENTIRELY separately for a clean finish.  The dials are engineered to turn 360 on the main core. The core has a removeable compass activation key.
