COLIN CANTWELL CONCEPT STAR DESTROYER WEBPAGE
Hello and welcome to the Colin Cantwell CONCEPT STAR DESTROYER WEBPAGE!!! As faithfully as I could manage, I recreated the wonderful Cantwell pre-production concept star destroyer as a 3D file you can 3D print at home.
I took every available reference photo, traced profiles, and meticulously recreated each piece. I created these at "studio scale", that is, the same size as the original model, which results in a total length of this model being 67 cm. (over 26 inches long including the forward antenna)!
**IMPORTANT - PLEASE TAKE NOTE: This model is for advanced model builders and several components will need to be made by YOU (pieces that are not feasible for 3D printing) Read on....
If you have a 3d printer, you can buy the files and start making your star destroyer today! =) The superstructure and high detail parts are provided in STL file format for 3D printing. For the hulls, side trench details, and antenna you'll need to scratch make those with plastic or metal tubing and styrene panels. I provide the PDF that has all the exacting accurately scaled templates for cutting your styrene panels for the hulls and internal bulkheads. The templates are carefully marked indicating top and bottom panels and inside edges to help guide your construction. I engineered the bulkheads to fit 1/2" I.D. PVC to help give the model rigidity.
**You can purchase from me all the lasercut components and all the internal framing/bulkheads and pvc tubing necessary for this project that are DIRECTLY laser-cut off my engineered plans. This does not include any 3D printed or resin components. I ship to destinations in the U.S. If you are overseas please arrange for a third party carrier U.S.-based.

I had to take a few creative liberties with some of the thicknesses and I had to get super creative with parts separations to ensure the parts are actually 3D-printable. They are. I have test printed each piece. Where needed, I engineered keys into the parts that will allow you an easy fit and assembly.
IMPORTANT: THIS MODEL IS FOR THE ADVANCED BUILDER. The hulls are not included as 3D print parts, they are PDF files as they would be impossible to print with accurate dims. They will need to be made from scratch by the builder. I have created a PDF that includes all the hull plates, and all the interal BULKHEAD armatures. So all you need to do is print out the PDF and trace the patterns onto styrene and cut them out, or simply use the PDF to have all the components out of styrene. For the bulkheads I recommend cutting .125 gauge plastic or wood (or a similar thickness). For the hull pieces, I recommend cutting .060 gauge material.
*the different colored parts indicate separately printed pieces. Assembly is very easy and is arranged as a stack that is keyed. The separated components have a side-benefit of being small enough to be printed on smaller sized resin 3D printers.

Let's have a deeper look:
The files include PDF plans for creating the hulls and sub-frame including all bulkheads. Have this printed to trace onto styrene or have them laser cut out of styrene. Two thicknesses will be needed as indicated in the plans. Pay close attention to the markings I included that indicate inside edges top and inside edges bottom (don't assemble any other way).
A look at the bulkheads sub-frame assembly and laser cut styrene plates being assembled onto the subframe. Standard 1/2" I.D. PVC pipe is used to connect the frame. All the specs and details including a PDF that is instantly ready for a laser cutter machine, are explained in the PDF included with the file sets.
HOW IT WAS MADE
The parts are segmented small enough (even at studio scale!) that all the parts can be printed on a machine like an elegoo Saturn.
